Description
It is the first Saturday of June and the Angels enjoyed a wonderful ride… As the temperatures are warmer and triple digits was forecast for today, we decided to depart a bit earlier. 7:30 was the appointed time and right on time all of the bikes were in line and ready to ride.
Today, Shutterbug was the designated leader. The West Side Café in Kearney would be our destination. Blue agreed to ride shotgun and, in fact, had to do double duty as he was also assigned to ride in the “rocking chair”. Have you figured it out? Well, let me show you a
group picture
(minus the photographer).
It was just breaking into the low 80’s when we rode out. The desert is showing the effects of days without precipitation. It is very dry out there. Around the Apache Junction area, the saguaro cacti are just about done with the bloom and there is
very little color
on the ground. I have been pretty disappointed that there have not been many large bunches of cactus blooms this year. With all of the early rain, I did expect more.
We arrived at the
café
without incident and there was one group of riders there. Yes… it was a LARGER GROUP than ours, but we were not intimidated. Debbie’s daughter Jennifer was working today and it was not long before we had coffee and were deciding on our morning selection.
The ride home took us south to Winkleman and then up 77 to Globe where we stopped for a break at the Shell Station. I did notice that the saguaro in this area are still in full bloom and we did slow down to get a picture or two of the
Yucca Blossoms
. They are pretty spectactuar.
Arrived back in the resort a minute or two prior to Noon and the temperature was one degree below 100.

I am learning how to use a new GPS, and hope that my figures are correct.
Miles ridden: 151
Average Speed 52.7 mph
Riding Time 2 hours 51 minutes
And my maximum speed was 72.9 mph
I am not sure what the plans for next Saturday will be. There are three couples that are going to ride to Alpine that Friday for a two night stay. Jack & Linda Parsons, Mike & Charmaine La Grange and Wanda and I will head East at 7 am with plans to stop in Globe for breakfast. If any of you would like to join us for that leg of our journey, be ready at the Chevron by 7 on Friday (June 11) morning. We will continue on over to Safford where we will pick up 191 and then ride the Coronado Trail to Alpine. On Saturday we will ride over to Glenwood NM where we will explore the “catwalk”. We will be back on Sunday and I will post a report then.
Blue and Char had planned on joining us, but I think Friday is the day she is supposed to pick up her new hearing aid. It will be exciting for her (and all of us) when she can again join in the conversations.
More news….. as it happens…
