Description
Hello again from Alpine, Arizona. What a fantastic day this was! It did begin a bit on the cool side, as last night we had rain and it was in the 40’s. We were not in a hurry to get started, as there was no plan to ride a tremendous number of miles. We had breakfast locally, at the Bear Wallow Café and then Maverick led us East on 160 with Glenwood, NM as our destination. Really, we were going the see the Catwalks, just outside Glenwood. I had heard that this is a spectacular area. Mike and Charmaine had been here once before, but had never walked up to the end of the developed area. I am going to show you several pictures, perhaps a sampling of the continuous array of
waterfalls
, and the
towering walls
, some of the
catwalks
themselves and maybe one of the
fantastic sky
as it framed this magnificent canyon. There are a couple hundred pictures of this area alone and almost double that of today’s ride and the accompanying scenery. I will also say that it is one of the prettiest and most ineresting canyons I have ever seen.
We had lunch in Glenwood and then rode up to the ghost town of
Mogollon
where we spent another hour or so. It was an interesting ride, steep and one lane much of the way, but an enjoyable time. After returning back to the motel and resting for a couple of hours, we rode up to Hannigan Meadows for a steak dinner. Wanda and I spent a weekend there last year and I was so impressed with the meal that I wanted to go again. Mistake!.... The steak did not compare and the service was slow. We did see some elk on the way up, and unfortunately they were roadside on the way home (in the black of night) so it made for a nervous ride. But, here we are, safe and secure, back in the motel.
Tomorrow we will return home and right now, I am going to start uploading pictures. You can see all 400 plus of them by
CLICKING HERE
, and I remind you that the best was is to select the “slide show” option under the “Actions” tab. That will get you to all of the folders in the easiest way.
GPS data on today’s outing;
Miles ridden: 189.8
Average Speed 43.8 mph
Maximum Speed 75.5 mph
Time riding 4 hrs 19 minutes.
