Wednesday Ride

Due to the cool weather in Payson (it snowed last night), we will go to Tags in Coolidge instead.

Re: Ride to Ak Chin on Wednesday, February 6

I enjoy your bi-weekly reports and even more, the pictures that accompany them. It is good to see the faces of my old friends.  Be safe, all  of you.....

It was a crisp and brilliant day as 19 Angels mounted their 14  bikes for the ride across town and south through Maricopa for breakfast at Ak Chin Casino.  There was much consternation over the previous rain, followed by the usual cold front, but everyone was well dressed and no complaints.  The Road captains' schedule continues, and Jay Stewart guided the first group, with Derek Hudson as tailgunner.  Bob and Barbara Shinnick were in charge of Group 2 with Duane and Bonnie bringing up the rear.  Did you see the Waymo robotic car with its dome guidance system on the roof driving west on Queen Creek Road?  That one had a person in the driver's seat and passengers in back.

A long table was waiting for us when we arrived in the Agaves Restaurant, and the waitress soon brought coffee and menus.  Their service takes on a bit of class and price (oatmeal brulee!), but the food is delicious and we enjoyed conversation time while the food came.  After the meal there was discussion of the route home, and the road through farm country attracted us.  You can see lots of dairy and cattle feedlots  going south on Hiway 347, then west thru Stanchfield on #84 to Casa Grande.  Today's temperature was stuck in the 50's, and the West wind was blowing as we returned about 1:30.

Today's trip was 141 miles in the sun with a lapsed time of 2 hours 56 at average 47.8 mph.  On Saturday we look forward to a trip to Fountain Hills and their Spring Car show.  The restaurants selected are Europizza with its deck overlooking the Fountain, or Denny's.  The car show should be interesting.
