Wednesday Ride

We had 7 bikes with 12 riders ready for the ride to Jake's Corner and Roosevelt Lake. I led with Dennis on the tail, as we headed up the Bush Highway to the 87 toward Payson. The burned landscape from last summer's fires greeted us as we turned onto the 87. It looked like some of the cacti had survived the fire, which was a good sign. We arrived at Jake's and settled on the picnic tables in the outside patio area. They were ready for our arrival and we were soon served our lunches. After our meal, a couple ladies even tried out the cornhole games on the patio! We then headed out toward the lake, observing how full it was as we passed. We stopped at Tonto Basin for those that needed fuel before continuing on to Globe. We encountered delays at the site of the new bridge being built between Superior and Globe, but were soon on our way. We returned at 1:50 PM having ridden 179 miles.
Saturday's ride will be to Safford, which is about 130 miles one way. Be sure to pack a lunch as we will be stopping at a park in Safford.

Saturday's ride

There were 11 bikes and 16 riders ready to go on the ride to the Iron Bridge. 5 other riders opted for a shorter ride to Casa Grande. Dennis took the lead and Dan K brought up the rear. Dennis took us on a very interesting ride as we headed west on the new section of the 202. We encountered an accident on the eastbound side, with massive traffic backups as we passed. We then passed through Tollefson, Buckeye and Avondale, many of us seeing for the first time the massive warehouses for Amazon, Fry's, Walmart and Wayfair, among many others. We made a rest stop at a Shell station before continuing on to the bridge. We parked and settled down to eat our lunches on the concrete abutments of the bridge. There was a bicycle rally also on the highway, and 1 group stopped at the bridge. They said they had traveled 75 miles that day, with another 95 miles to go on Sunday! We continued on our way to Gila Bend, then on to Hwy 238 to Maricopa, where we stopped for fuel. Gary K invited us to stop at his club at Sun Lakes, and several of us accepted, while the others continued straight home. We enjoyed the conversation and cool drinks after the long ride. We returned to the park about 4:30 PM, having ridden 219 miles.
Wednesday's ride is to Jake's Corner on Hwy 188 near Roosevelt Lake.  Those who wish to can order food there with outside seating, or bring a lunch.

Remember, we will start our rides at 9 AM going forward!

Wednesday, February 17th

On a cool morning, 5 bikes and 8 riders assembled at the station for the ride to We Ko Pa golf course near Fountain Hills. Dan K led with Dennis on the tail. As we headed up the Bush Hwy, we saw a herd of wild horses as we approached Hwy 87.We continued to the Golf course, where they had tables on the patio prepared for us. The waitress promptly took our orders and we were soon enjoying our food. We then headed back, and saw the horses had moved further away but still close to the highway. We returned at ~ 1PM? having traveled 78 miles.
Saturday's destination is the "Iron Bridge"  near Gila Bend. The weather is improving, so should be a nice day.

February 13th ride to Eloy

10 motorcycles & 14 riders were ready to head to Eloy to watch the parachute jumpers. Jay led the group, with Dennis on the tail, back from carpal tunnel surgery. We headed down 79 to Cactus Farms road and across thru Coolidge. We saw many jumpers in the sky as we approached the airport. The parking lots were full when we arrived, as we later found out there was a competition going on. Some of us ordered food at the restaurant to be enjoyed on the outdoor patio, while others ate their lunches they had brought. We were joined by Al & Marie Servais, also Max and his group from Desert Sun. All enjoyed the sight of the skies full of parachutes as they descended to the landing strips. Bonnie took many pictures, as you can see. We headed back on Hwy 87 and the 202, returning at 2 PM. Bob Shinnick observed it was exactly 64.5 miles both ways, for a total of 130 miles!
Next Wednesday's ride is to Jakes Corner on Hwy 188, where outside dining is available, or bring your lunch.
As a safety reminder, all of us should check our tires for proper tread and the correct pressure before the longer ride.

Re: Saturday Ride

Duane and all my old Angel pals.....  I have enjoyed keeping up with you as you take your biweekly rides but sadly, no longer recognize most of you. I guess it is time to drop out of the mailing group. I send my best to each of you and pray that you will continue to ride safe....

Thanks for including me.
