Sat 1/29/22 Ride

Our ride began with gathering for breakfast at 8 AM at the Golden Vista ballroom. There we enjoyed eggs with pancakes or biscuits & gravy, along with coffee & juice. After eating our fill, along with much conversation, we headed to the station and our ride to South Mountain. We had 12 bikes with 18 riders, so we split into 2 groups, with Dennis leading the first group and Gary K the second. We decided our route would be on the 202 all the way to Dobbins, then on to Central which would take us up the mountain. We ascended slowly up the narrow road, encountering many bicyclists striving to make it to the top. Also saw many hikers on the numerous trails. We got to the top to enjoy the views of Phoenix spread out before us,including seeing planes coming over the mountains approaching the airport. Most of us looked at the pedestal which showed the many points of interest around Phoenix. We then headed back, taking a different route around the back side of the mountain to the 202. We arrived back about 12:30, I forgot to check the mileage.

Next Wednesday's ride will be to Globe & the Apache Gold casino.

Saturday's Ride 1/29/22

As I have said, tomorrow's ride is to South Mountain. However, I can't find any available restaurants near there. Golden Vista is having a breakfast from 7-9 AM at a cost of $5. Choice of pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice or biscuits and gravy, eggs, coffee and juice. Lets plan on eating there and then going on the ride. Lets meet at the ballroom about 8 AM. Wear your Blue's Angels caps or vests to advertise our group.

January 26 Ride

Ride report from Dennis - Thanks Dennis!
There were 13 bikes and 4 ladies today. Since it was a chill factor of 21 degrees in Payson we decided to go to Headquarters restaurant in Maricopa instead.Gary K and Laurie led, down the 60 to the 202 and then turned south on McQueen to Riggs Road, then west to Arizona Av which is 87, then south again to Nelson Rd, then west to 347 and south to the restaurant. Bob & Doc stayed outside, the restaurant was short of help but were served and ready to go in about an hour We chose the Maricopa Casa Grande hiway east to Val Vista then followed it thru Casa Grande to Cox, and then south to Woodruff Rd, turn east again past the college to Signal Peak Rd, then north to 87, then Gary and Laurie and Mike P went west to their house, Bob K picked up the lead and we went east to Attaway Rd, then north to Hunt Hwy, and back to Florence, then north to home. Most of us got back here about 1:30. It was a great ride and not too cold, I think everyone enjoyed the ride.

Next Saturday's destination is South Mountain, a new one for us.

Re: Wednesday, Jan 19th Ride

I would like to thank Duane for responding so quickly to my call for assistance and to Dan for sticking with me.  I have a "so called" premium tow package for my cars, motorhome plus motorcycles.  I called the emergency number on my card.  AAA advised they would send out a tow truck in about one hour.  My situation was considered a priority due to the fact that we were stranded on the side of a highway.  They called back about one half hour later to advise that they could not find a vehicle capable of towing a motorcycle and I could expect a much longer wait, possibly mid afternoon!  So, again, a big thank you to Duane and Dan.  I very much appreciate your help.

FYI:  It appears that the problem with my bike is likely a sheared drive shaft spline.

I received a call from Derek, asking if I could bring my trailer to pick up his bike, as, even though he had towing insurance, they told him it would be mid-afternoon before they could get there! I got my trailer out of storage & headed out, finding Derek & Dan waiting just over the bridge on Hwy 79. We loaded the bike in short order and headed back to GV, with Dan following.
The group returned about 1pm, having traveled 150 miles.

Ride report from Dennis - Thanks Dennis

Hey Duane, there were 11 bikes and four ladies that joined us today, Paul was supposed to lead to Sunnyside Up in Catalina but he wasn't there today. With the Trump rally taking place, we decided to ride down through the farm country and go to the Cracker Barrel in Casa Grande.  Bob and Doc stayed outside and The rest of us went inside and had a great breakfast,  Bill Leisure made the comment that we had the best waitress that we've had in many trips there.   We came back home up Signal Peak Road to 287, over to Gilbert Road, then north to the 202 and back home,  was a great ride, a little windy but that didn't seem to affect us much, I led with Gary k on the tail and Dan in the middle, when we got back to Gilbert road Gary went straight on by and  Bill Leisure picked up the tail.  Thanks again guys!
Thanks Diane.

Wednesday Ride

Approximately 14 bikes with 21 riders met at the station for the ride to Maria's at Winkleman. Dennis led the first group with Gary K on the tail. The second group was led by Don with Dan K bringing up the rear. Maria's had the tables ready for us when we arrived. After breakfast the group rode up to Globe, with the obligatory stop at the Shell Station. Some of the Canadian riders marveled at the devastation left from last year's fires, as they were not here due to the pandemic. The groups arrived back about 1 PM, having ridden 150 miles.

Saturday's ride will be to Catalina. Thanks to Derek for the photo!

January 1st Frosty Butt Ride

Dennis sent this report:
Duane, since the Angels didn't have a ride planned for today four of us decided we would ride anyway. We met at the station and left at 9 o'clock destination was Gila bend or thereabouts, Gary k led with Bob and Max in the middle and I brought up the tail.  We took the 202 to Alma school then south to Riggs Road,  where we saw some wild horses! Then we had a quick break in Maricopa, then on to Gila Bend, where Bob and Maxgot fuel,  then we decided instead of eating there in Gila Bend we went to the co-op, but there must've been at least 30 other riders in there, and they had just gotten there and nobody was  served yet, so we had a drink then we were on our way. We came back through some back roads and then up to 85, over to the 202 then headed back home total miles today was about 215 for me . It was a beautiful day, the ride was just a tad bit chilly and a little windy. What  a great way to start a new year!  Thanks Duane DennisSorry forgot to take pictures.
