After being rained out on Wednesday, the Angels were greeted today under perfect Arizona sunshine. 14 riders on 10 bikes left the Chevron in the cool of the day on our way to the Salt River canyon.   Bob Shinnick took charge while Duane is recovering from his knee surgery. We were divided into two groups so we could more easily maneuver the Renaissance Festival traffic. Picket Post Mountain, famous for its 1880's signal communication, stood silently in the morning sunshine.  The Hoodoos east of Queen Creek tunnel cast long narrow shadows across the highway as we came through.

Breakfast this morning was at Judy's in Globe. The photos show that we're not always eating; sometimes we're only waiting to eat. Everyone enjoyed a really good breakfast, and soon we're on our way to the bottom of the salt river canyon north of Globe. The desert in that area is considerably drier than around Apache Junction after Wednesday's rain. Soon we were in conifer country and gliding down the long slope to the river.  Notice our attractive group of ladies perched on the wall with the river below. Traffic was light today, and the joy in this area is riding the long curving slopes down and back from the river.

The trip back from the canyon got warmer with each segment. As we returned to the valley, the temperature was up to 75° and rising.  Plenty of traffic was coming in from the Renaissance area, and we were soon back where we came from after a delightful trip through desert and mountains. Our trip today was 184 miles at average 49 mph, and we arrived back at 2:50 PM

Next Wednesday's ride will be to the Cattleman's Café at Mariana, while three intrepid riders from our group will be in Laughlin and Oatman. My short stay included several separate sightseeing trips, and I'll be back in Minnesota on February 25. I'm sure the Angels will have an enjoyable season, and the Blues Angels banquet is scheduled for March 12.  See Mini Al for tickets and the raffle.

Saturday, February 19th Ride

I understand there is some confusion about Saturday's Rim Ride. The plan is to leave at 9 AM from the station & do the 1/2 rim ride. We will go thru Globe on 60 to the bottom of the rim and return. The "full" Rim Ride is planned for March in warmer weather. Of course, if anyone wants to do the full ride Saturday, they are welcome to.

It was a nice warm morning when 12 bikes with 15 riders left the Chevron at 9 o'clock. The goal was a ride to Ma's kitchen, one of our favorite places. Dennis was the leader, and Paul on the tail. The first job was to get past the Renaissance Festival, which went pretty well today.

It was a smooth ride, and the roads at Roosevelt lake had only our group walking to the restaurant. Two riders missed their breakfast because the rest of us were getting ready to leave and they had not been served yet. There were a few separated riders for other purposes.  On the way home, we stopped at Tonto basin for gas and a rest, then to take the 87 S. to the Bush Highway.  Lots of motorcycles at Jake'Corner, but no horses today.

The group traveled 179 miles and got home about 2 PM. Weather permitting, Wednesday's ride will be to Payson, And Saturday's ride will be the rim ride starting at 8 AM. Please note the change of time starting on Saturday.

Photos by Paul; text by Paul and Phil other there's a pictures were you born and get more than 40 they're all are OK

Longshadows showed as the angels gathered at the Chevron at 9 AM today for a ride to Arroyo grill at the Maricopa golf course. There were 12 bikes with 15 riders, and we went  to a new place on our schedule. It was good digs, as we learn that one round of golf for a couple is $249.

Dennis was our fearless leader with Bob Shinnick at the tail as we left the 202 on McQueen Road then found our way to Maricopa through some back roads . There was a big traffic jam entering Maricopa because of some construction. Bob was especially useful as he cut the line to allow us to shift from Lane to Lane, and soon we were turning right on this beautiful entry lane lined with eucalyptus trees.

The grill is an attractive place, and the course has been built using the dunes that formed in this area. We enjoyed plenty of food, and the talk was of how many calories each of us can eat without gaining weight.

When we assembled at the bikes, there was discussion of how to return to GV without going through the construction zone. So Dennis turned right on the 238, then left on Ralston Road, the place where there is a very large dairy off the highway. Ralston Road led to Papago Road, which is one of the ways to get to the dwarf cars place. Soon we were going south on the four-lane from Maricopa  then left on 84 past all the cattle lots and the town of Stanchfield. That was only the beginning.  As we passed through Cassa grande, Dennis led us along the truck route which took us to Eloy. No chutists today. There we turned on the 11 Mile Rd. past the fairgrounds, turning right to Coolidge. That was followed with a right and left through the small town of Adamsville, a suburb to Florence. We can tell by the walled construction areas that Adamsville will be doubling in population in the next couple years.

From Florence the 79 is a well-known Road home, and we had enjoyed a wonderful trip through many different places on an ideal day . We made 178 miles at average 38 mph with 4:42 hours of riding time.  It took 178 round trip miles for us to go to a breakfast that was only 50 miles from home!

The ride on Saturday will again begin at 9 AM to Ma's kitchen near Roosevelt lake. We are promised 80° the rest of this week, and it's a wonderful time for me to spend three weeks in AZ.

Wednesday, Feb 2 Ride

I understand there were about 12 bikes with 5 ladies on the ride to the Apache Globe casino. The food was great with good service. Some of the riders went around thru Winkleman while the rest came straight back. They encountered a lot of wind at the Top of The World as they passed through to Globe.

Saturday's ride is to Catalina and Sunny Side Up.
