Re: Fwd: And now there are only 4...May 9, 2020

Thank you for all the ride reports as I so enjoy each of you and our rides.
I made it back to a Wyoming Saturday, 1am, May 2nd after 21hr road trip. Cool temps here in mornings, about 38°.
Have a safe, healthy summer and will see you in the fall if the Lord's willing.

There were 4 bikes with 6 riders as we departed for Winkelman and the takeout window at Maria's for some favorite breakfast Burritos.  Restaurants will open next week for partial service.   At 7:00 AM the  temperatures are cool and traffic is light.  Jay and Dottie led the group with Dan, Don and Anne, and Phil at the tailgunner position.   The reference to "only 4" is that Don and Anne, Duane and Bonnie and Phil and Jean will be leaving for their homes before next Wednesday.

On the way through Superior and the Tortilla Mountains, the desert trees are still blooming and the Cactus are putting on their best show yet. The mine strike is still going on, and we can assume it will last a long time.  Maria's has a takeout window at Winkelman, so we waited at social distance for our food, then headed for the Winkelman Golf Club and Baseball Fields where there were nice picnic shelters with sprinklers on the lawns beside us.  This is an old course, built in days when people were proud to live in the place where they worked.  We enjoyed socially distanced food and conversation before returning past the old-town vacant buildings to the Copper Corridor, turning right on the 77 at the signal light , over the bridge construction, through Mammoth and Oracle and returning on the 79.  Temps during the morning were in the mid-80's until we reached the shade beside the Tom Mix statue.  After that, the heat of an early summer imposed itself on us all.  The grass  on the desert has turned brown during the last 10 days, and the Lost Dutchman Wildfire started last Thursday east of Goldfield Road.  It covered about 250 acres, and is still smoldering.

There was an R & R stop at the Florence gas station before the last lap to our homes in GV where we arrived before noon.  We had 184 miles on another socially distanced ride.  We hope to return for a new and normal season next fall!
