On toward home on the 87 with a stop, at the off-ramp and Uaery hwy. I had a cramp. So we stopped for some water and me to walk off the cramp. At the bridge the campers were on both sides of the river, there was a couple of sheriffs on the south side. Couldn't tell what was going on.
This was Dennis's last ride until fall. We rode 307 miles, With a lapped time of 7.and a half hours Not sure about Wed. 6/1/21 have to talk to Jay.

Six bikes and a cage met this morning at the Chevron for a Party trip to Fountain Hills and Europizza for lunch on their patio. There were three spouses along for the ride today, since this is another departure time for some of our group.  Dennis was again the leader, with Jay and Dottie in their new pickup bringing up the rear.   We made several extensions to enjoy the ride, starting on the way out along Superstition and Crismon Roads.  Palo Verde and other flowering trees are just finishing their season, and the Saguero are blooming everywhere.  We saw wild horses being fed on the ridges along the Beeline.

What could be better than lunch on the patio with the fountain displaying before us at Fountain Hills? There were water misters in the awning, and enjoyable food for everyone served by a pleasant waitress.

Our group returned as we came along the Bush Highway, where there are plenty of visitors even on weekdays, as a few of us took a tour to Butcher Jones Park to enjoy the backside of Saguaro lake. We were back by 11:15, with 87 miles of memories for next fall.  Paul will carry on during summer; my last report till then.

The blues Angels ride swelled to nine bikes today in mid May with the addition of Eugene Beran and his wife Laurel with their friend Gary, along with a few others from outside the park. Dennis was our leader, with Jay at the tail as we have been usual lately.

Long cool shadows shaded the way as we passed through the mountains from Superior to Globe, then turned left on the 188 to Lake Roosevelt. Starting down the long slope to Lake Roosevelt is one of those most striking views, and the lake is doing very well this year at 77% of capacity.  Our target was Ma's kitchen, a well known restaurant for our group. Some of our new riders did not know it was there.  As usual, portions were large and the service was good as we enjoyed respite from the rising temperatures outside. Our next stop was the Roosevelt Lake Bridge, where we stopped for these beautiful pictures of our surroundings. Working north through the Tonto Valley, we were pleased and impressed to see some new grasses and bushes sprouting in the large burn area along the two roads we travel. With no moisture, we were surprised to see the light green cover overtaking the burned appearance that was there only 10 days ago.  We were also impressed to see the large number of RV's camped along the beach in the north part of the Roosevelt lake area. There were few campers in the southern areas where Ramadas have been built for camping in the desert areas away from the beach.

Parking areas in the Salt River Canyon area along the Bush Highway were filled to capacity with river floaters and hikers along the river on this, another warm and sunny day. We returned to GV with 180 miles in 3.22 hours at average speed 53 mph.  The ride on Wednesday will be the last for more of our members, and we will be at Europa Pizza in Fountain Hills to watch the display.

Phil

Like birds sitting on a fence, the six regulars gathered at the Chevron for a trip to the south today. Dennis was our leader with Jay at the rear.  Dennis sets a fast pace, and there was plenty of ground to cover.

Breakfast was chosen at Maria's #2 near Kearney.  It was a good meal, then we moved on to Winkelman and south across the new bridge.  We can now see more of the forest fire area in Dudleyville, which destroyed several structures as well as hundreds of acres of the trees along the stream.  Today there was a fire just north of Globe, and the #60 was closed; a bad trend for the summer.

With eyes trained on new sights, we next went to San Manuel where the photo shows the pictures painted on the wall of the shopping mall behind us.  From San Manuel, we took the back road (Webb Road) toward Mt. Lemon, then through Oracle, marveling at the different places where houses are perched on the rocks.  The Patio Restaurant had a good crowd this morning.

At the 79 intersection, Phil turned south to pick up a book from our cousin in Saddlebrook. There is a picture of her view of the Catalina Range. Phil also took in a few miles of the gravel Freeman Road which crosses from the 79 to Dudleyville.  Notice that the Cacti are dark in color, but there are blossoms.  The group motored on, turning left at the Park Link Road, a stop at the Shell and return home from Picacho Peak. They came east from Coolidge to Florence on the Adamsville Road, a new favorite.  It was a warm but pleasant day, and everyone enjoyed being out and about.

Changes are coming to the riders in the group as summer approaches. Dennis is going to Kansas in June, then has several family destinations.  I think he already has 9,000 miles on his new Harley.  Dottie's surgery will be in June, Jim Barrington is going to Colorado to  a funeral, and Phil and Jean leave May 21 for Minnesota.  Before then, next Saturday's ride will be to Pine, followed by lunch at Europa on May 19 to watch the Fountain Hills display.  No plans yet for the ride next Wednesday.

The group had 214 miles today, and returned about 1:10 PM.
