Yesterday Paul, Jim and I explored the Freeman Trail, a 33-mile gravel road from about 5 miles south of the Tom Mix to Dudleyville, about 7  miles south of Winkelman on the 77.  The desert terrain has a couple notable mountain peaks, a few outpost cattle ranches and lots of desert grass and foliage. The  twisting dusty road is easy traveling except for one place: there is a Missouri Bridge creek crossing with a gravel bottom  just before Dudleyville that would be bad news for motorcycles.  The town is an end-of-the-road place where several houses burned in a forest fire last year.

There is also a photo of empty and collapsed storefronts in downtown Hayden where the only active business is the Police Department with no less than 5 patrol cars parked in front.  They must be carefully watching the old smelter that made the town and is now watching it close down along with the mining.
