13 bikes with 16 riders met at the Chevron this morning for perhaps the nicest day so far this month. Although we traveled mostly as one, two groups were set in motion with Gary Knudson leading the first group and Dennis McKinney leading the second. Dan and Bill took the respective tailgunner positions.

A good dining experience in January brought us to choose the Hideout Steakhouse at Casa Grande. It's a big place; food came after 45 minutes and it was good. There was extra bacon, and everyone ate their fill.

Arizona is the greenest ever, and now the flowers are popping out everywhere south of Highway 60. In addition to the brittlebush, poppies, and Lupin that have appeared, there is a touch of color added by the Mallow in the background . Cattle have been in the nearby pastures since January, and warm temperatures are still needed before the mountains turn yellow with flowers. Gary led us on a circuitous route going  going north on Signal Mountain Road, then through Sacatan and to the 587 and put us in Chandler Heights through several traffic back ups. It's Spring; there are events everywhere, and the freeway system was overcrowded. I had 135 miles on a 4 ½ hour tour today that averaged 38 mph because of waiting in line at various intersections.

Not much was said about the Blue's Angels picnic last Saturday, March 18. It was a Grand occasion, as always, with fried chicken and all the fixings served by Peter and Joanne Vander Werff nd their friends. About 40 people attended, and there were lots of prizes for the drawing. Happily, Paul Breuklander was elected our leader. Paul asked that a new leader be chosen next fall, since he is often called for airport runs. Al and Sandy Jeanquart will continue as treasurers . Although the season is winding down, we hope for several rides in spring sunshine before the call of the north rings for our riders.

 Phil Parsons.
